Our Philosophy

The Center for Advanced Pain Management at Hunterdon Medical Center offers patients a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to chronic pain. Our Center is unique in that we coordinate your care among our team of specialists and your primary care physician, enabling you to benefit from a variety of interventional and medical treatments as well as physical and complementary therapies.

We tailor your treatment plan to your individual goals to ensure the best outcome and improve your long-term quality of life. We are the only pain management group in the region to coordinate comprehensive care that addresses the needs of the whole person. We use a multimodal approach to pain management including:

Medical Management
Support for Pain Sufferers
Return to Optimal Functioning using Physical Therapy
Interventional Pain Procedures
Complementary Therapies

Medical Mangement

Our goal in Medical Management is to optimally manage your pain while using an appropriate level of medication and minimizing side effects. For patients with complicated pain problems we are able to customize a combination of several medications that work together to target each patient’s unique symptoms.

Support for Pain Sufferers: Coping and Well Being

Specialists are available at the Pain Center to provide vital support service for patients coping with pain. They will teach coping mechanisms and tools such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and progressive relaxation to name a few. These techniques will improve adherence with medical treatment and overall functioning.

Return to Optimal Functioning using Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is an integral part of our pain program. Through physical therapy we will help you restore function and improve your quality of life. We will also educate you about proper body mechanics and prevention of repetitive injury. We will refer you to one of our five convenient outpatient physical therapy sites located throughout Hunterdon County.

Interventional Therapy

We offer wide variety of interventional procedures to alleviate chronic pain, done under fluoroscopic (x-ray) or ultrasound guidance.

Complementary Therapies

We offer complementary therapies such as Reiki, a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation, for patients with chronic pain. This technique also promotes healing, based on belief that life force energy flows through all of us. Our office coordinator Eleanor Schrieber is a Certified Reiki Master Teacher. She administers this valuable service in our offices.

In the future we may also offer acupuncture, which has been shown to be effective for a wide variety of pain conditions in controlled studies.
